November (Thanksgiving)

Image
Hi All, I hope your thanksgivings went great! I know this time of year often begins the busy holiday season. I would say we are also plunging into this busy season. Unfortunately, at the beginning of the month we found out that the lady with the two children who we were hoping was going to start our program in November changed her mind. We are very saddened she made this decision but unfortunately this does happen many times with women coming out of this life. All of the people who have been walking with her for the last two years have been hit hard by this. We are praying and waiting to see what God will do next. An exciting step has been taken this month by one of the ladies in the RGP. She has found housing on her own as she goes into step three of the program. We are still walking with her and it’s so much fun spending time with her but she is learning to live with more independence and this is beautiful. During this month two extra english classes a week have been added wit...

October (EFN Conference)

Image
Hello Family and Friends, This month has been busy but good. It started with me getting over being sick. I was sick for a month which is very abnormal for me. I am so thankful that is over. While on the mend from illness I went with the team from Sofia who are a part of the Daughters of Bulgaria to a conference in Berlin. This was put together by a network actively working to fight human trafficking in Europe. They are called European Freedom Network (EFN). This group has been building and growing for several years now. This network is a great resource for those who are on the ground working in this fight. I found so many people to gain information from, from the experiences they’ve had and from the people they know. Many of the people I met from other European countries work consistently with women from Bulgaria. Many times I was told “most of the women I work with are from Bulgaria. Why do you think that is? And how can I help them and what can I tell them?” Bulgaria is on...

Hi Everyone! "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.“ Matt. 11:28 So sorry for a late post. Wish I had a good sounding reason but the only one would be “life.” This past month has been kind of a settling type of month. Where we get things organized and work on a routine of sorts for the different areas of ministry. I am weekly teaching classes in the RGP program which is fun and a challenge. Also, the english clubs have just started up again and this took a lot of planning from the team here. We are hoping and praying to see this part of the ministry grow in the next few weeks. One of the challenges of this past month, and this is even still going on, is that sickness has been working its way around the team. I have been sick for almost a month now, even though I am much better still dealing with a cough and sinus issues. A few more people on our team have just started to get sick. I am continuing to build relationships here. Still wor...

August (New Pace)

Image
Hello All, First, I want to say thank you so much for continuing to support me with prayers as we are on this journey together! God is continuing to teach and provide answers in large ways. This ministry would not be possible without each of you supporting me and my team. Thank you! This month of August has really changed the pace of the Internship. This month started with new meetings and new projects. Normally this month is a slower pace for the team here. Well the English teaching side of things is normally slower but the RGP side has been continuing on. I have begun classes with the RGP program. From here on, weekly I will be teaching three classes, fitness, english, and cooking. We have a new lady in the program and will be having another one begin some time in the next month or so. The program is being expanded due to more women desiring to enter the program. This will cause many changes for us. We are working on getting a new housing location added to the one we have and al...

July (English Camp Month)

Image
(The Well 2017 Team) Hi All!! I hope you all are doing great!! This past month of July has been packed full of events and relationship building. The beginning of the month was spent preparing for English Camp. This week long event is a camp put together mostly for the people who have been coming to learn English with us during the year. We took the group on a large bus into the mountains about two hours away from Sophia and stayed in a Heja. During this camp week we had English classes everyday. Also, we had many fun events every day with the hope of not only immersing each person working at learning English in a mostly English speaking environment but also to give them opportunities to learn about new areas of life. We had reading comprehension each day which was a section of the Bible. With this we were able to talk through the concepts spoken about and answer questions. At the beginning of the week we were broken up into four teams. My team (the orange team) won the volley...

June '17

Hi All!! Well the month of June has already finished! It’s definitely amazing how time flies by! During this past month I have spent a lot of time between English class teaching, classes for each intern to grow in knowing God, and getting to know the women in Daughters of Bulgaria. There have been some great friendships which have begun. As the typical week goes by we have classes in the morning for the interns to learn about the culture, who they are in Christ, and how to be mission minded. In the afternoons we get together with Bulgarian friends or work with individual parts of the ministry such as DofB. In the evenings we often get together with friends or are in English teaching classes. During this past month God has put in my path a Bulgarian woman who has been feeling isolated and we have gotten together over the past few weeks to build our relationship and to talk about God. I had just been praying earlier in the day that we first met and asking for a friend I could talk...

First Few Weeks

Hi All!!! I am still trying to figure out how to get photos to work on here so you all can meet some of the teammates I will be learning and working along side for the internship and meet some Bulgarian friends! As soon as I can figure it out I'll post them! This past week or so has been really good but also very challenging. It's amazing how easily a person forgets how many differences there are not only in languages but also in cultures. The team I am working with has been super helpful and supportive! Even with these blessings it is amazing how challenging it can be to meld into a society, to learn its ways and thoughts. For a person to take on these new ways as not only possible but to some degree take them and morph them into their own. It's like learning to live all over again, yet to do this once a person has been very used to their former way of living. Challenging. But not impossible! During this week we have been working on learning the Bulgari...
